Dominican Republic Travel Guide
Floating in the Caribbean, sharing the island of Hispaniola with Haiti and representing the eastern two thirds of land is the Dominican Republic. Christopher Columbus insisted that, "there is no more beautiful island in the world" and with a rich tapestry of both landscape and people, that may very well be true. The style of Dominican Republic resort can be split into three basic categories - the North, East and South Coasts. The Northern resorts, consisting of Playa Dorada, Cabarette, Bahia Maimon and San Juan are set on beautiful palm-fringed golden beaches. Ideal for all ages, with a cosmopolitan selection of bars, restaurants and shops garnishing the sun-drenched beaches, plus the choice to join in with some water sports, the Northern resorts are slightly more lively than those on the other coasts. The visitor can choose to be as active or inactive as they please.
The East Coast resort of Bavaro and those on the South Coast, including Juan Dolio and Bayahibe entertain a slightly slower pace of life. With spectacular white sandy beaches, slightly different to the golden beaches of the North, and lapped by shallow clear blue waters, the Southern beaches are truly paradise for sun-worshippers wanting to chill out. Bavaro especially is excellent value, but with a designer Caribbean label. With the most stunning beaches of the Caribbean, you canít go wrong with the Dominican Republic.
