Finland Travel Guide
There are approximately 80,000 islands that form complex archipelagos the largest of which are the Aland Islands and Turku. Inland there are three main physical regions – the coastal lowlands along the Gulfs of Finland and Bothnia, the Lake District, a heavily forested inland plateau in the Southern central region and the Northern Uplands much of which is situated beyond the Arctic Circle. The climate benefits from the Gulf Stream but the winters remain very cold and dry. Winter sees continuing darkness whilst and during the summer the northern Laplands have a 2 month long ‘day’. A diverse and intriguing country, Finland also benefits from a traditionally good natured and forward thinking population.
