Mali Travel Guide

We advise against travel to the north of Timbuktu, the western border area with Mauritania and the eastern border with Niger, due to banditry.

The British Ambassador to Mali is resident in Dakar, Senegal. However, there is a British Embassy Liaison Office in Bamako, offering consular and commercial advice and assistance.

You should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners.

We strongly recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling.

The above information was recorded on the 22nd November 2004, from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
