Wells Travel Guide
Although one of Britain’s smallest cities Wells has a tremendous amount to offer to visitors and locals alike. Vicars Close is a must see, believed to be the oldest planned street in Europe, and the nearby Wells Museum comprehensively exhibits the city’s long history.
The Market Square in the shadow of the Cathedral is the old commercial heart of the city, with many antique shops, stately old pubs and hotels, and home to a thriving market on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s.
Nightlife is gentle by most city standards but there are a number of lively pubs and good range of restaurants serving a wide variety of cuisines.
Out and around the city there are numerous attractions, Glastonbury with its famous tor is just a few miles away, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge with their deep caves are popular family attractions within easy reach of Wells.
