A 300-year-old Kasbah house restored by Fez and Marrakesh craftsmen, its rooftop terrace looking over the Strait of Gibraltar.

Dar Sultan sits on a quiet street within Tangier's Kasbah, inside a house that's been standing for roughly three centuries. Its restoration leaned on traditional craftsmen from Fez and Marrakesh, and the result is a warren of individually decorated rooms — colourful fabrics, collected artifacts — arranged around a central courtyard.

Guests consistently flag two things: the breakfast (pastries, fresh juice, good coffee) and staff going out of their way. The tradeoff for the historic layout is mobility and noise — three flights of steep, narrow stairs separate ground level from the rooftop terrace, and being on a Kasbah street means some street noise filters in. Neither has dented its standing as the #1 B&B in Tangier on TripAdvisor.
